Not all clubs are selectable

I have set up a private league but some of my friends cannot select from all available clubs, generally only 3 or 4 clubs are selectable although many others have not been taken by any other manager. Also, in the invite clubs from other leagues are displayed which is very odd. What is the issue? My friends use the iPhone app of OSM. Thanks.
