It depends. One key thing you need to make sure of is that all the players are in the right place. For example, a defender in the spot of a midfielder may impact performance. Also, try to look at how tactics and formations meet. If you play wing-play and have no wings, it would be hard to have that formation work. Lastly, always looks at your next match. Perhaps if you are playing a strong attacking side you may want to play more defenders or vice versa for an attacking side.
