In my opinion each combination with putting people directly into 2nd round is stupid.
Ok, I agree, it's ok to reward some people who made good results in last edition or who are high ranked on the World list, but putting them into 2nd round is a too big advantage. A safe place in the WC is fair enough. Everyone should start from the same position and it's not easy to pass the 1st round!
You know in real life if a team wins the Champions league they have a safe place in group stage next year...that doesen't mean they will be automatically in 1/8 Final.
Ofc everyone has his own opinion about this... -
@menagerbl and, if we have a WC this year with some users passing directly to semifinals... WC will become harder to everyone because they all know that, if they reach the final round and get a good place, they are going to pass this suffering of 1st round!
This is going to be 3rd OSM WC that i organize (And i gave some help with 2016 OSM WC too) and each user who got a "safe place" didn't need it because he/she was already qualified by manager points.
Until May ends, I have a lot of time to think and see if our 2018 WC best need a safe place or not... About high ranked special places, everyone has same chances to get this "too big" advantage like you said.I can be less or more agree with your feedback but i won't consider it stupid, thank you for it!
-
Ok sorry, it's not stupid. Let's say it's bad.
About ''safe place''.Can't agree with what you said. Eeach year there are at least 50% ''new faces'' who didn't participated the year before, and if some managers finished in top4 or top8 in the last edition it doesen't mean they will have enough manager points 1 year after that. Maybe they stop active playing, or quit the game for a while? I guess you know even 3-4 World Champions in last few years missed the next edition because they answered to late or whatever, which is an absurd...so even they hadn't a safe place.
For me it will be forever a ''too big advantage'', no matter what...and I won't participate with this rules even if I get a invite...but as I said, that's only my opinion...guess noone will miss me...
Wish you good luck with the organization!

I have a question about this rule:
Qualification period will be between 1st December and 31st May, but only leagues that finish from 14th December onwards will be taken into account
If I understand this correctly to be counted a league must begin on December 1st or later and finish May 31st or sooner. But what is considered the beginning of the league? The first match day or the first day of preseason preparation days?

My bad because i wanted to say "Each user who get a safe place and answered to accept it"! I remember two cases of WC winner who didn't play next edition due to inactivity/late response
Last edition you weren't interested to play WC anyway but for me it's ok that you want to give your personal opinion, be sure of that. Thank you!
-
@hank-strama a league counts if finished between 14th December and 31st May, both days included, but don't forget that only leagues where you played 14 matches or more will be taken in count!

Wait now, that's different than what you said before. Let's talk about two specific examples to make things clearer:
Case A:
I create a 10-team league on Nov. 20, first match day is on Nov. 24 and finishes on December 16th. Is this league valid?Case B:
I create a 10-team league on Nov. 27, first match day is on Dec. 1st and finishes on December 20th. Is this league valid? -
@Hank-Strama
Yes mate, in both cases A and B your leagues will be taken into account. Important only they will finish on December 14th or after that. The thing is you must play at least 14 rounds in one league. For example if you enter Australia in round 11/22, and finish this league with 1.500 MP's this points won't be taken into account because you played only 11 rounds.
