How important are goalkeepers in preventing goals?

For example, would an 80 overall goalkeeper let in significantly more goals than a 100 overall goalkeeper?
How about relative to defenders? Would it be better to splurge on a highly-rated defender or goalkeeper?

Important, but the balance it self is important as well.Let's say when you put Neuer in a 5th league English club and they play against Ajax Amsterdam it will be 10-0 for Ajax even the 5th league English Club is having Neuer at the goal.
Other way around : When you have comparing teams a better goalkeeper will make the difference just like a worse goalkeeper.
When both teams are about 75 all over the pitch(and using exact same tactics) but 1 goalkeeper is 90 and the other one 50, there is a bigger change the one with the 90 goalkeeper would'nt lose. Because the goalkeeper that is having 50 stats is worse.
Quick maths : Better goalkeeper, less change of getting goals against.
