Avatar update

@SpecialOne Managers usernames can be innappropriate and used in malicious way as well.. maybe you should give us all User ID's generated by the game so that those people cannot use managers names with bad language as well
I know its bit harder to monetise that but oh well

But 18, 81, 88, 69 and some other numbers should be forbidden then.

great idea, I don't mind paying for Bassie and Adriaan avatars, Peppi en Kokki avatars would be nice too.
-
@fals9nine Sure, especially as you can download it for free, right now! The developer is a genius! ha ha ha

Thanks everyone for sharing their input and discontent with this feature update (I believe we weren't clear enough on when this is coming). It's coming soon.
I just wanted to weigh in saying that we will not be charging anything for the avatars that we are offering. We might someday, but as with everything in OSM, the huge majority of content is free. So you would only use Boss Coins to pay for extra special ones for example. But again, this not even on the list for now. All avatars with this update will be free.
And to explain a bit more about why we're doing this. We have over a million managers. Someone can upload inappropriate content every single second which is available to everyone to see. This is a serious problem because there are minors playing our game. And the sentiment around user generated content is changing everywhere. From governments, to Google, to games.
Ideally, we would moderate the inappropriate avatars like some of you already suggested. This simply isn't possible due to the huge scale of avatars in OSM. There are no tools available for us that can easily detect inappropriate content for images. And we also can't check every avatar before it's uploaded.
These things combined forced us to make this call. On one hand we're happy that OSM will be safer, on the other we also loved having custom avatars as it's a great way to add a piece of your own personality to OSM. But we also think that this new system can be cool too. We can easily add new ones, also based on what the community wants. I hope we can turn our attention to thinking about cool stuff we can add. ^Luuk

@harry-poon Yes, I agree if some people use inappropriate Avatar it will be bad, but why do we need to pay BC to get avatars this is only to make people lose BC right?
Why not make all the avatars that will be available free
You are making two bad mistakes.
- You are stopping us from using custom Avatars
- You are making us pay BC to use Avatars that will be available
Do you guys only know money and Boss Coins?
Tell me on which date this update will be available, then i will know when i will stop OSM.
-
@harry-poon Nothing can replace creative avatars. With the moment of the update, a certain part of this game ends.
-
@fear-force As I said, all avatars that will be available will be free in this update.
-
@maniek_56 I agree to some extent. We are as disappointed as you that this beautiful part of the game will be less creative. But still, we will be able to replace at least some of it's creativity if we manage to become creative ourselves in searching for new ones we can add.
-
@harry-poon You said "So you would only use Boss Coins to pay for extra special ones" What is that? you wrote this am I right?
-
@fear-force You are right. But I also wrote "We might someday". Meaning that we could introduce avatars for Boss Coins in the future but aren't planning on that now. However that will go, all avatars in this update will be free. Sorry if I was being unclear.
-
@fear-force You're right, I wanted to comment on that too
-
@harry-poon Ok, but why will we need to pay to have an avatar while all these years it was free, and everyone had custom Avatars. That means you are planning to make us pay BC to get good avatars in the future
-
@harry-poon Now everything can interfere with avatars. Color, symbol, pattern, shape. Maybe there will be cool, nice avatars. However, this will not make any impression on adult players
-
Anyway, complaining won't make them step back on their decision, so i will stop complaining and think as if nothing happen. Having no custom avatar won't stop me playing OSM as before, I will forget that there is avatar that can be added on your profile
-
@maniek_56 I think that's a good point and one of the negative effects of this update. But let's see how it plays out.
-
@harry-poon What about usernames? When will you remove that as well as words can be offensive ans inappropriate as well? Crew names as well? When are you removing that?
Just give us User IDs and Crew IDs. We must be safe! -
@harry-poon Hi! As on all good games, the tool is the possibility for the community to report inappropriate content. This "update avatar" just shows the main problem on OSM : no customer service. My experience in one month : 3 mails and no answer, I report a mistake about a squad on world forum, no change after one month and on French forum a guy is waiting for someone to solve a bug since three months... lol The true is that you choose this option because you don't have enough people to manage avatar reports. User experience is not your priority.
-
@harry-poon It would be better to implement an option to report an offensive profile or photo, but this would be a bit more work and would not bring money... which is more important than listening to the OSM Players who bring the game to life...
