Specific Player Positions - Discussion Topic

New in OSM: Specific Positions! We heard your call about more possibilities to expand your tactical skills as a manager in surveys, social platforms and emails. Thanks for that! We especially loved the idea of more player positions.
From now on, players in OSM have a specific position instead of only defender, midfielder and forward. For example, Sergio Ramos is now a centre back.
In OSM, players perform best in their own specific position, but they can still play in other positions in the line. Beware: players still perform worse in a different line.
Use your Scout or the Transfer List to build your best team with the specific positions of the players.

I can't believe it! Finally GameBasics made it! Now I can say to my friends that OSM is the best game! -
Two questions about the update:
- Will the effect of playing in a different position already have impact in the matches that will be simulated tonight? Or will we as managers have some time to adjust our squads to the new update?
- How big (in %) will the penalty for playing in a slightly different position be? For example when I don't have a player with DR as best position, will a DC or DL get the same penalty in % when I use him as DR? And also will a CAM perform better as MC than als CDM in a 433B line-up?

In my humble opinion, this update is not a step in the right direction. If you take a look what kind of updates Gamebasics has been bringing the recent months, pretty much all of them are directly linked to FIFA. It shows a lack of creativity. Moreover, once again, they fail to inform the managers in time for such a big change. My team is a bit of a mess now, which forces me to put players on positions they don't belong.
Gamebasics, you can do better than this. Use your own creativity, instead of simply copying features from other games. Perhaps that way you can keep your own identity alive.

terrible update, get rid of it a soon as possible. Will only benifit paying players who can throw bosscoins at the scout for specific players. Squad will need to be much bigger to play certain formations.

One additional question: will a DC with 18 Att still perform better as DR compared to a DC with 5 Att when both players have the same Def stat?

@specialone In my opinion I think it should be adopted as in reality the fact that a defender can play on either side and have the same performance as the extremes, that is, there is only the distinction of lateral defense instead of right and left such like the extremes.
Also the midfielders in my opinion have an exaggeration of positions (center midfielder, right midfielder, left midfielder, defensive midfielder and offensive midfielder and there will only be the distinction between defensive midfielder and midfielder that would be like an all terrain both would have a good performance ahead as well as behind.
If you want the game to be as real as possible I think it would be something to adopt.

Adding players' specific positions isn't linked to FIFA it is actually linking to... Football? If you want to see Gamebasics' creativity, Just go through the game you'll see a whole lot of that. Also FIFA and OSM are completely different games so, Even if you copy everything it would still be so different. Taking good details from a massively produced game just makes our game better. -

I also noticed that the transfer list / transfer worker needs adjustments after this change. On my Aldosivi subaccount there are no side midfielders (MR/ML) or wingbacks (DR/DL) on the transfer list at the moment, while nobody bought a player on these positions after the last transfer worker.

At its current form, the 'Specific Positions'-functionality may well be the end of 'Free'-play. I think that for lots of Managers (me included) this will have a huge impact in the way how they manage (progress) their Team. Before this Update for instance, I was used to first sell a Player and then find a replacement on the Transferlist. With the current Transferlist, I do not see this happening anymore as the number of available Players for a specific Position is very limited. As an example, in our current CrewDuel, there is no RM available. Hence, you can only recruit one via the Scout, which means more planning upfront and lots of BossCoins.
I know the overall goal of the Developers (Gamebasics/Miniclip) is to generate more revenue (by increasing the need for buying more BossCoins), but I think this Update will eventually purge lots of 'Free'-Players (again... me included).
In my opinion, some changes are needed in order for this Update to work...
First of all, the Transferlist needs more available Players for all the different positions.
It also makes no sense that a Player has only 1 fixed Position, this makes rotating your Squad very difficult as you are forced to have backup players for every position.Up until now, OSM was a very nice game to play, but I do not know if that will still be the case after this Update.

One question based on the new position feature. Is the centre-forward(secondary striker) position available?

As much as I always wanted this update to happen (since the start of my OSM career I wanted to see positions on OSM) I must agree with some people here and say that sadly this update was not ready yet to be implemented on OSM. Some of the problems I have with this:
- too many players are put in certain positions, while in real life they play couple positions
- some positions are not well presented on the transfer list, and in game in overall (too few RM & LM players specifically)
These 2 problems are biggest ones for me. Just as the medals system, on its own this is a great idea, but its been rushed and not worked out well before being put into game.

Would be nice to just get a heads up and say it goes live on a certain date, instead of “from now”. A lot of people have 4 accounts and in competitive leagues and won’t have teams ready. A few days earlier it wouldn’t have been hard to just say it goes live on 10th feb on the 7th feb for example. @SpecialOne

There are no RBs because there are not much full backs in the world.
