๐ Champions Cup in OSM ๐

Stupend idea, for me, as long as it is done, it is already a great advance in the OSM world, it generates added value to the game. Nothing to add.
-
@guiz90 I like the way you are thinking. But instead of ""freeze" until the tournament system can simply "throw out" you, if you will lose your knockout stage match. Although, if managers will be frozen until tournament it is a time loss for them.

Thanks for all the feedback so far, guys!
We really want to use your feedback to give us directions on how we're going to implement the Champions Cup in OSM, so keep it coming!
To give you a thought on how we see this feature:
- First we're going to make the easiest part: the group stages. These will be played just like OSM is played right now.
- After that we will start developing the knockout stage. This is a new kind of gameplay in OSM which we can base upon the cup, but without the normal league matches.
- Finally, we want to combine the group stages and the knockout stage to give you the full Champions Cup experience.
This list is to illustrate our thoughts only. It can change due to your feedback, new insights and so on..
@Guiz90, never stop dreaming! The idea of the Fantasy League isn't dead yet
-
i Like,it's is a big idea.
-
I do not know if I can express my opinion here but as it is not the real world but a simulation, a group with 4 teams do not see how attractive there are different goals. could be without transfer with equal goals to all the teams.
-
@william-van-velzen_nl Quite a creative idea. This is going to change OSM in a good way, I feel.
When the group stage and the knockout stage is combined then it would be super dope to have something for the third runner-up of that particular champions league, for instance, you fail to reach the finals, you have a chance to be the thrd runner-up (an objective of some sorts for specific low-end teams that maybe do not aspire for the finals).
What I mean by this is that if you fail to reach the finals, you do not get disqualified but you play for the third place. I don't know if i'm making enough sense but that'd just be amazing to have.
-
I like the idea , finally OSM is working on something speical, can't wait to see how this will go .

@william-van-velzen_nl an slot more is need for Champions...

@william-van-velzen_nl said in Champions Cup in OSM, how exactly?:

Something new, something different can bring only good feedbacks.
It's ideal, there is a need for such a competition, nevertheless, cutting the last phase would be great, because implementation of a league type championship would cancel all the particularity. Only knock-out matches, just like of real UCL.By the way, such an unpleasant new interface...
-
While it's something new, it will be a good thing. In this case the idea in principle I like, and I think that everyone seems the same.
It would be necessary to see how to do with the eliminatory phase. At this moment, how I see it, there are 2 options:-
Make 2 leagues, one with the group stage and another with the eliminatory (In this case the eliminatory should be in cup format, and in the case of losing the manager must resign).
-
Relate both phases in the same league, losers should also be eliminated.
The problem I see is the difference in value between teams, a solution? give a couple of days of preseason for teams like AEK or CSKA Moscow can give a fight.

A first step in the right direction is adding the Group Stages of the Champions League to OSM. You can check them under Special.
Let's see how we like playing these leagues (A-H are available). Please let us know what you think!
-
@harry-poon @William-van-Velzen_NL hi, will the teams continue in the next phase the same as finishing the first phase?
-
Hi @dj-l3o-ferrari,
This is the end goal that we're trying to reach, you'd qualify for the knock-out phase!
We're developing the Champions League experience in steps.
Starting with the poule phase and the knock-out phase as separate leagues.
Eventually we will combine the two modes (easier said than done). -
Let's see...
Group stage
8 groups = 32 teams (16 goes to knockout stage)
Knockout stage
Best-16
Quaterfinals
Semifinals
Final matchChampions Cup = 6 + 4 = 10 matches max.
Suggestions
- No Transfers.
- No Training camps.
- No Timers and Boss Compensation.
Ideal teams for this league would be like fantasy league worked. I know that 32 teams... Won't be easy and we can suffer a delay to have all teams completed, this is why maybe, if we want to have a OSM Champions system, we must reduce teams from 32 to 16.
If we want just the "Official" Champions league here in OSM, just continue with 32 teams and keep with the main idea but teams value have a very big difference between them and we can't do anything in 3-4 days to change it.
Personally, i'm not interested in this system but, if Gamebasic make a big effort to have something new... Just be sure that you all are going to do something that really like to users.
Alternative to the Group+Knockout system
Group stage
8 groups = 32 teams
2nd stage
1st and 2nd place from each group goes to the final league (16 teams)
3rd and 4th place from each group goes to another league (16 teams)Just one row of matches (Not home and away) and with this alternative we can have transfers. We play 6 + 15 matches = 21 matches + 3-4 preparation days is around 24-25 days playing this special league system, no more than a 10 teams normal league that all users use to play during all year.
To end my post, i already know that if Gamebasics is already thinking about a knockout stage, they don't really want an alternative... I hope you get what you want and users would be fine with the champions experience, i won't test it but i know that this system is something that users are suggesting since I began to play OFM
Good luck with that! -
Hi @markez17,
The reason why we're posting this feature on the forums (before it's even in the game) is because we want user feedback and suggestions.
We know that the concept of a "Champions League" inspired mode is something the community has been fantasizing about since the beginning of OSM.
We want to include them in the development process and make this an awesome feature!Currently we don't have a refined idea about the knock-out phase, so your feedback and suggestions are welcome and will be looked at.
-
@johndesley @William-van-Velzen_NL Well, I think mirroring the knock out phases from the real world scenario would make it more authentic.
For the Group Phases:
- 8 groups with 4 teams in each group, 32 teams in total.
- All teams in a group will play both home and away against each other.
- Teams finishing on top of their group will have a benefit, discussed below.
For the Knock-out Phases:
- All teams will play both home and away against their opponents. This will go to copy the atmosphere from an actual champions league night, when the visitors come to town for the game. Believe me, this plays a big part in the actual champions league.
- The 1st placed teams from the group stages will play the second knock-out game at home.
- Of course, the team which is higher on the aggregate score will go through to the next round.
- This one I'm not so sure of, but in case of a tied aggregate score, the team with the more away goals would go through. If it's tied even beyond that, then we can go to the Added Extra Time.
- The final can be similar to the current cup final. And this will be played on a neutral ground.
- If a team manages to make it all the way to the finals, it would have played a total of 13 games (6 in Group, 7 in Knockout).
Rules:
- Transfers are allowed. But only in the Group Phase. It'll be locked for the Knockout Phase.
- No training camp, instant player transfers or using boss coins to accelerate timers.
- Allowing secret training will make the whole thing more competitive. But it'll be fun to make this a bit more interesting. Out of the Secret Trainings available, players can access only 3 in the group stages. The remaining 3 will be available when/if they reach the Knockout phase.
One more suggestion I would give is that whenever a players gets knocked out, be it in the group phase or the knockout phase, their season gets over then and there. And they should be allowed to leave with the manager points they have earned. Otherwise this whole set-up will be boring for anyone who doesn't progress within the competition.
-
@JohnDesley ok thank, good job.
-
Hi @tony-alvera,
Your suggestions have been documented and we'll take it in consideration during the development process.
Thank you! -
Haven't had much time to spend thoughts about the group and knockout stage yet, but if you want to implement a Champions Cup similar to the Champions League, you should somehow stick to qualification like in real CL.
Only the best teams qualify for CL, so this should apply for Champions Cup, too.
You could have the possibility in the future to choose at the end of a league to
a) continue the league (only if you're the moderator)
b) continue looking for your next challenge or
c) move on to Champions Cup (which of course is only possible if you finished league on first place).Champions Cup itself would be formed like a battle. Once you decide to move on to Champions Cup you'll have to wait until there are 31 (or so) other players that are being put together to form a Champions Cup of 32 managers. I'm not sure how many leagues end every day, but that should be enough to fill a league of 32 managers within some 24 hours. Of course the number of 32 managers can be reduced, if the statistics work better for a 16 team league.
Why else would you implement a system similar to CL if everyone can join it without having achieved anything?
As soon as I have made more thoughts about group and knockout stage I'll post again
