Can't invite a friend to OSM league.

I started up a new league (which so far is set on private). And wanted to play it with some friends. One of them is a first time player, who upon installing the game was prompted to join some league. He is not receiving my invite to my league (which on my OSM looks to be 'sent'). This could be due to his 1 league limitation, where he is stuck waiting for that league to start before he can resign, or something else has gone wrong?
Would like some solution, him being able to leave his current league or whatever so we can play together.
