Negative medals for completing goal

Hello, can someone please explain this?
Finished the season 3rd with a goal of 5th.
What's the point of playing if I'm going to get negative score when I successfully complete my goal????

That's because you will have to look at each match individually. Every match you win or lose medals depending on the result and other factors. Losing a match will result in a higher loss of medals then the amount of medals you receive when you win a match. That means that you need to win multiple matches to cover one loss. The difference between those factors increase the higher the Division you are in.
Even the end-of-season bonus might not be high enough to end with a positive amount of medals.
